So!YoON! Experiences the Footprint® Gen2

So!YoON! – also known as Soyoon or Hwang Soyoon – is a singer, songwriter and guitarist from Seoul, South Korea, and the front person of SE SO NEON. She also performs and records as a solo artist, bringing an experimental and highly individual approach to her music.

During her visit to Barefoot Sound headquarters, So!YoON! explores the Footprint® Gen2 series with Thomas Barefoot before experiencing the Footprint®02 Gen2 for herself.

Her response highlights an important aspect of professional monitoring: accuracy is not only about hearing more detail, but also about understanding how those details contribute to the overall musical experience.

As So!YoON! describes it:

“I can feel it, feel the music, not even using my ears.”

Her long-standing experience with Barefoot Sound also gives her perspective on how the monitors can support the creative process. A Complete Reinvention

The Footprint®01 Gen2 and Footprint®02 Gen2 represent a ground-up redesign of the original Footprint® series.

Both models now feature a fully tri-amplified 3-way architecture, with dedicated amplification for the woofer, midrange and tweeter. This approach allows each driver to operate with its own dedicated power and processing, contributing to the precision, transparency and dynamic performance expected from Barefoot Sound.

The result is a monitoring platform designed to provide detailed, controlled reproduction while retaining the physical impact and musical engagement needed for modern production, mixing and recording.

Barefoot Sound Footprint®01 Gen2

The Footprint®01 Gen2 is the larger model of the two, combining an 8-inch Dual-Force™ woofer system with a 5-inch aluminium-cone midrange and 1-inch dual-ring-radiator tweeter.

With 710 watts of power per monitor, a frequency response of 36Hz–40kHz and maximum peak SPL of ≥113dB, the Footprint®01 Gen2 is designed to provide substantial headroom and powerful low-frequency performance while maintaining the detailed presentation expected from a professional nearfield monitor.

Its 3-way architecture and advanced Barefoot Sound technologies make it a comprehensive monitoring solution for studios where greater output and extended low-frequency capability are required.

Barefoot Sound Footprint®02 Gen2

The Footprint®02 Gen2 brings the Gen2 architecture and Barefoot Sound technology into a more compact monitor format.

Its 6.5-inch Dual-Force™ woofer, 5-inch aluminium-cone midrange and 1-inch dual-ring-radiator tweeter are driven by a fully tri-amplified design delivering 410 watts per monitor.

With a frequency response of 38Hz–40kHz and maximum peak SPL of ≥111dB, the Footprint®02 Gen2 provides a combination of accuracy, dynamics and low-frequency control suited to smaller studio environments.

It is also the model that So!YoON! experiences during the video, providing a compelling demonstration of how a compact monitoring system can communicate both technical detail and musical expression.

SPOC™ Technology

One of the key innovations within the Gen2 series is Barefoot Sound’s patented SPOC™ (SPectrally Optimized Conversion) Technology.

SPOC™ introduces analogue crossover filtering before the A/D conversion stage, allowing high frequencies to reach the DSP without attenuation.

This architecture is designed to preserve the integrity of the signal while allowing the advanced digital processing within the monitors to perform its role with greater precision.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dual-Force™ Technology

Barefoot Sound’s Dual-Force™ Technology uses opposing woofer drivers to help cancel cabinet vibrations.

The result is tighter and more controlled low-frequency reproduction, while reducing unwanted cabinet movement and distortion.

MEME™ Technology

The Gen2 series also introduces MEME™ (Multi-Emphasis Monitor Emulation) technology.

With four selectable monitoring voicings – Flat, Hi-Fi, Cube and Old School – MEME™ allows engineers to reference their mixes through different monitoring perspectives without changing speakers.
