PMC MONITORS •THE REFERENCE FOR THE BBC’S NEW MUSIC HUB STUDIOS
After 18 years at Wogan House, BBC Radio 2 has relocated back to BBC Broadcasting House in London. The new state-of-the-art studios, designed by IPE, form part of Broadcasting House’s Popular Music Hub, now comprising 10 studios for Radio 2, Radio 1, and 6 Music.
Ben Relf, Senior Project Engineer at IPE, shared that IPE has a long-standing relationship with the BBC, having worked on several projects, including the installation of Yalding House Radio 1 studios in 2005 and the original Popular Music Hub studios in 2012. The new studios feature an Audio over IP infrastructure, with DHD audio consoles and PMC6 active monitors paired with PMC8 Sub speakers for superior sound quality.
The studios are equipped with advanced facilities such as Radio Visualisation, Live Music performance areas, DJ Positions with Pioneer DJ Decks and Technics Turntables, and an IHSE KVM System for efficient PC and Playout Server access. Despite tight deadlines and supply challenges, HHB and IPE successfully delivered the hardware on time.
PMC’s founder, Peter Thomas, and co-founder, Adrian Loader, have a rich history with the BBC, dating back to the early 1990s when they developed the BB series of loudspeakers for live music performances at Maida Vale. Thomas expressed pride in PMC’s continued use in the new Radio 2 studios, highlighting their world-renowned clarity and durability.
PMC’s professional studio products are used by prestigious clients globally, including Capitol Studios, Hollywood’s film scoring elite, Deutsche Gramophon, Harmonia Mundi, and renowned artists like Stevie Wonder, Calvin Harris, Elton John, and Kraftwerk.
