OVERVIEW
The Buzz Audio KICK is a single-channel 500-series version of Buzz Audio’s renowned DBC-20, bringing classic diode bridge compression into a compact, modern format. Inspired by legendary designs of the past, it features a fully balanced, transformer-coupled signal path with custom “radio steel” transformer and discrete Class A circuitry. The result is a bold, vintage-style tone – tight, colourful, and rich in harmonics – ideal for adding depth and character to any source.
At the heart of KICK is a unique sidechain design that delivers progressive compression, where the ratio increases naturally as the signal exceeds the threshold. This behaviour – reminiscent of revered 1960s compressors – allows for smooth, musical control over highly dynamic sources like vocals, while also excelling on drums and percussive material where punch and energy are critical. The combination of tonal colour and dynamic response makes it a versatile tool across tracking and mixing applications.
Designed for ease of use, KICK features stepped attack and release controls, including an auto release mode, alongside intuitive controls for compression amount and output gain. Additional features like Soft mode for more transparent dynamics and a bass filter to retain low-end punch make it equally effective on mix bus duties. With its fast, high-resolution metering and straightforward workflow, it delivers professional results without slowing down your creative process.
