Wolff Audio Quad Tutti™ & W1 Mic Preamps – A Historic Circuit Reimagined for Modern Studios
Wolff Audio made waves at NAMM with the introduction of two powerful additions to its lineup: the Quad Tutti™ and the W1 Mic Preamp.
Both designs are rooted in console heritage, engineered with purpose, and built to solve real-world tracking challenges in today’s professional studios.

Quad Tutti™ – The Sound of Sunset Sound Studio 1, Now in Four Channels
One of the biggest moments at NAMM was the unveiling of the Quad Tutti™ – a four-channel, single-rack-unit microphone and instrument preamp based on the legendary Sunset Sound Studio 1 console preamp.
For the first time, this historic circuit is available in a true multi-channel rackmount format, designed specifically for modern tracking workflows.
Preserving a Legendary Recording Legacy
The original Tutti preamp, developed by Tutti Camarata and Sunset Sound’s in-house engineering team, became the sonic foundation of Studio 1 and helped shape countless iconic recordings.
Paul Wolff, working closely with Tutti’s son, Paul Camarata, has faithfully preserved the integrity, character, and intent of the original design – ensuring today’s engineers can access the same musical DNA that defined generations of records.
While Wolff Audio has offered the Tutti in 500-series format for years, the Quad Tutti™ marks the first time this revered circuit has been realised as a four-channel rack unit.

No Compromises – From Transformers to Tone
Authenticity was non-negotiable.
Cinemag – the original transformer manufacturer for the Sunset Sound console – once again produced the transformers for the Quad Tutti™. This ensures the same musical response, harmonic richness, and dynamic integrity that engineers expect from the original circuit.
The result is four identical channels delivering a warm, open, authoritative tone that feels equally at home on:
- Vocals
- Drums
- Electric and acoustic guitars
- Bass
- Orchestral sources
It’s classic console character – built for today’s studio demands.

W1 Mic Pre – Smart Headroom, Intentional Design
A Console-Derived 500 Series Preamp
Alongside the Quad Tutti™ 4-channel mic preamp in 1U rack format, Wolff Audio introduced the W1 Mic Pre – a 500 series version of the microphone preamp originally designed for the Wolff console.
At first glance, the W1 may appear simple. In reality, it includes several deliberate engineering decisions that distinguish it from traditional microphone preamps.
Massive Headroom Without a Pad
The W1 features up to 56 dB of input gain, but its most powerful feature lies at the zero position.
At this setting, the transformer’s secondary is padded down, and the op amp runs at unity gain. This results in roughly 20 dB less gain than most mic preamps – creating massive headroom without engaging a pad.
The benefit? Engineers can place microphones on extremely loud sources – drums, guitar amps, brass, percussion – without clipping or compromising tone.

A Seamless Transition to Traditional Gain Structure
As gain is increased, the transformer padding is removed, and the preamp gradually transitions into more conventional microphone pre behaviour.
This intelligent approach delivers:
- A wide range of clean, usable gain
- Reduced reliance on traditional pads
- Greater tonal integrity
- Practical flexibility in real-world sessions
The W1 is a thoughtful solution to a common studio problem – maintaining clarity and headroom on loud sources without sacrificing sound quality.

Designed for Engineers Who Value Character and Control
The Quad Tutti™ and W1 mic preamp represent two different expressions of Wolff Audio’s philosophy:
Preserve what made classic circuits great – and refine them for modern workflows.
Whether you’re tracking full bands, capturing vocals, or managing high-SPL sources, these designs deliver musicality, headroom, and heritage in equal measure.
