The Burl Audio B16 Mothership is a compact, horizontal 2-slot, 2U empty converter chassis designed for flexibility and portability. Drawing on the same technology as the flagship B80, the B16 provides Burl Audio’s legendary sound quality in a smaller form. It supports any combination of optional I/O cards and includes a MADI motherboard card, offering ample power for its high-headroom, low-noise converters. Burl converters are famed for their analog-like response to signal levels, allowing you to shape your tone through precise gain staging. With the B16 Mothership, you gain access to world-class analog sound with rich, detailed digital conversion.

A World of Options

The B16 Mothership’s durable 2U chassis offers two horizontal card slots, an internal power supply, and a variety of motherboard options, including DigiLink, MADI, Dante, or SoundGrid connectivity (this version is equipped with DigiLink). Each A/D converter channel is driven by Burl Audio’s proprietary BX1 transformer, while every D/A channel features the advanced BOPA4 discrete op-amp. Ideal for users who love the B80 but need a more compact system, the B16 Mothership can be configured for various setups. Create a four-in, eight-out configuration, an eight-input tracking system, or a portable 16-output mixing rig. Additional options include the BAES4 card, offering four channels of AES I/O, and the BCLK card with eight word clock outputs per card.

Burl Audio’s A/D and D/A converters deliver a sound reminiscent of an analog tape machine’s front end, allowing you to shape tone by adjusting signal levels. These converters combine world-class analog warmth with precise, detailed digital conversion. Each A/D channel is transformer-balanced, creating richer, more saturated tones as signal levels increase. Burl converters capture the nuances of analog gear while offering the precision of modern digital technology.

Flexible, High-Channel MADI Connectivity

The BMB2 MADI Motherboard offers two optical MADI ports, compatible with ASIO (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) PCIe MADI cards, providing robust digital connectivity. It supports 64-in/64-out at sample rates of 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, and 96kHz, and 32-in/32-out at 176.4kHz and 192kHz.

Adaptable Configuration

The BMB2 allows various input/output setups. For example, a 48×32 I/O configuration can be achieved using six BAD8s and four BDA8s, while two BAD8s and eight BDA8s yield a 16×64 I/O setup. With the Mothership’s modular design, the BMB2’s I/O possibilities are extensive and versatile.
