Seamless Pro Tools Integration

Load up a host of virtual instruments, effects, and sound shapers without bogging down your CPU; and inspire performances by monitoring through effects or by printing them in real time with virtually no latency. And there’s no need to use an external application to take advantage of Pro Tools | Carbon’s latency-free monitoring — it works right from the DAW with the push of a button. Moreover, Pro Tools | Carbon includes a serious software package with 115 AAX DSP plug-ins from the Avid Complete Bundle, UVI’s Falcon sampler and synthesizer, virtual instruments from Native Instruments, Dave Hill’s HEAT harmonic enhancer, and a slew of hardware emulations, amp sims, and more from Plugin Alliance and McDSP. And, unlike many DSP plug-ins, AAX DSP plug-ins can be used both in DSP and native domains, meaning you can run them without having Carbon connected — a huge plus for remote collaboration!

On top of its eight built-in preamps, Pro Tools | Carbon contains eight analog line inputs and outputs and 16 channels of digital I/O over ADAT, so you can easily expand your channel count as needed. Additionally, it features four headphone outputs on the front panel — a handy addition when you’re recording small ensembles.

Connects via High-Bandwidth Ethernet

Ethernet is offering lots of possibilities when it comes to professional audio. With an eye toward the future, Avid forwent creating Pro Tools | Carbon as a USB or Thunderbolt interface. Rather, they opted to equip it with Ethernet connectivity based on the open-source AVB (Audio Video Bridging) protocol. Avid’s version of AVB offers vanishingly low latency and streams audio at 32-bit–float precision.
