MAAG AUDIO MAGNUM-K® Compressor
Versatility and Precision Control
Whether demanding precise dynamic control or subtle overall enhancement, the Magnum-K confidently handles tasks with speed and the utmost sonic excellence. Starting with a variable input attenuator control of up to 12 dB, signaled by a green LED at -30 dBu for signal presence and a red LED nearing +23 dBu to signify proximity to clip, the unit boasts a maximum clip level of +26 dBu. A variable input gain control, offering up to 12 dB of additional gain, follows suit.
Magnum Comp and K Comp Compression
The Magnum Comp section showcases the FB/FF switch, toggling between feedback and feed-forward modes for vintage or modern soundscapes. The compression range control—offering 4, 8, 12, or 16 dB options—sets the compressor’s maximum range, while the compression ratio control, continuously variable from 1.3:1 to 13:1 or hard limiting, interacts with the range control. A brightening blue LED mirrors the gain reduction applied.
Precise Dynamics Control
With variable attack and release time controls spanning 5 to 200 milliseconds and 0.1 to 1.2 seconds respectively, the Magnum-K affords detailed dynamics control. The threshold control, numerically ranging from 0 to 10, determines the compression onset level. Furthermore, a switchable side-chain filter control eliminates low frequencies from the side-chain, preventing unintended gain reduction. This high-pass filter offers frequencies including off, 40, 80, 120, and 220 Hz.
Parallel EQ2 and Air Band Shelving Filter
The parallel EQ2 section, fed by the input audio and seamlessly mixed back into the output, introduces minimal phase shift. Featuring a hardwire bypass switch, a gain/boost control, and a selectable Q with wide and tight options, the EQ2 provides broad frequency choices for both wide and tight Q settings. The Air Band shelving filter—equipped with an in/out bypass—features selectable frequencies of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 40 kHz.
Final Touches and Monitoring
Concluding the controls are the make-up gain control, offering up to 21 dB of additional gain, and the ultra-smooth soft limiter, featuring an in/out bypass switch. Monitoring is facilitated by a tri-color LED, transitioning from green during typical operation to pink and red at +17 dBu with gentle gain reduction. The Maag Audio Magnum-KⓇ sets a benchmark in precision audio manipulation, offering a comprehensive toolkit for the discerning audio professional.
