Nordic Audio Labs VÄRI – Microphone System
OVERVIEW
The Nordic Audio Labs VÄRI Microphone System represents a new approach to professional studio microphones. Developed after nearly two decades of research, the VÄRI system was designed to capture the musicality and character of legendary vintage microphones while overcoming the fragility, scarcity, and maintenance challenges associated with ageing tube designs. Rather than replicating outdated technology, Nordic Audio Labs developed an entirely new architecture using modern materials, advanced manufacturing techniques, and proprietary electronics.
At the heart of the system is the D100K capsule, delivering ultra-high-resolution audio capture with a wide dynamic range, low noise floor, and natural frequency response. This pristine sonic foundation allows engineers to shape tone in real time using the system’s dedicated control unit. Three intuitive controls – LOW, MID, and HI – unlock 125 distinct tonal colours, ranging from vintage dark warmth to modern brilliance, giving engineers access to both familiar microphone signatures and entirely new sonic textures.
The VÄRI Microphone System includes an integrated microphone and a dedicated control unit designed to function as a unified signal chain. Powered by custom VäriDRIVE™ electronics, the system faithfully reproduces the tonal behaviour, harmonic richness, and dynamic response of classic microphones while offering a level of tonal flexibility never before available in a single high-end studio microphone.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
125 Distinct Tonal Colours
The VÄRI Microphone System provides access to 125 unique tonal characters, stored in repeatable banks and controlled via intuitive LOW, MID, and HI controls. These settings allow engineers to shape everything from subtle tonal adjustments to dramatically different sonic identities.
Inspired by Legendary Vintage Microphones
Developed with guidance from legendary engineer Bruce Swedien, the VÄRI system was designed to deliver the musicality and harmonic richness of classic microphones while eliminating the reliability and maintenance issues of vintage tube designs.
Proprietary D100K Precision Capsule
The microphone’s D100K capsule captures sound with exceptional clarity, dynamic range, and realism. This high-resolution foundation ensures the microphone faithfully captures every detail before tonal shaping occurs.
VäriDRIVE™ Electronics Architecture
Custom VäriDRIVE™ electronics form the heart of the system’s tonal shaping capabilities. Working in conjunction with the capsule, the circuitry recreates the harmonic behaviour and dynamic response of classic microphones while enabling entirely new sonic possibilities.
Real-Time Tone Shaping with Zero Latency
Unlike digital modelling systems, the VÄRI system shapes tone in real time with true zero latency, preserving the natural feel and response of the performance during recording.
One Microphone, Endless Sonic Possibilities
From vintage warmth to modern brilliance, the VÄRI Microphone System offers an entire palette of tonal options in one microphone, making it a powerful tool for engineers, producers, and studios seeking maximum versatility without compromising sound quality.
