AEA FC2 – Two-Channel Tube Preamp
OVERVIEW
The AEA FC2 is the result of decades of collaboration between AEA and renowned designer Fred Forssell, marking their tenth preamp project together. Years in development, the FC2 is a two-channel tube preamplifier designed to deliver the dimensionality and musicality engineers love about tubes – without the excess colouration often associated with traditional valve designs.
At the heart of the FC2 is a cascoded hybrid topology that keeps the tubes operating in their sweet spot across the entire gain range. This approach delivers natural warmth, depth and harmonic integrity while maintaining exceptional clarity, transparency and linear response. Fully balanced from input to output – a first for an AEA preamp – the FC2 offers an open, spacious sound with outstanding noise performance.
A modernised evolution of the Forssell Technologies FetCode, redesigned from the ground up by Fred himself, the FC2 is built for real-world professional use. Precision Grayhill stepped gain switching, flexible output control, premium components throughout and meticulous build quality make the FC2 equally at home on vocals, acoustic instruments, ribbons, condensers and dynamic microphones alike.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
Fred Forssell Tube Design
Designed by Fred Forssell in close collaboration with AEA, the FC2 represents decades of refinement in analogue preamp design, blending tube warmth with modern precision.
Cascoded Hybrid Topology
A unique hybrid architecture keeps the tubes operating in their optimal range at all gain settings, delivering depth and dimension without sacrificing clarity or linearity.
Fully Balanced Signal Path
The FC2 is fully balanced from input to output – a first for AEA – contributing to its open, transparent sound and exceptional noise performance.
Wide, Precision Gain Range
From delicate ribbon microphones to hot condensers, the FC2 offers a total gain range of 10 to 75 dB, with stepped repeatability and fine output control.
Built for Professional Studios
Premium components, including Grayhill switches, Neutrik connectors and NKK toggles, ensure reliability, consistency and long-term performance.
