Roswell Pro Audio RM8 – Drum Room Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
OVERVIEW
The Roswell Pro Audio RM8 is a purpose-built large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed specifically to capture the ambience, power, and depth of drum room recordings. Unlike general-purpose condensers, the RM8 features a carefully tuned frequency response that remains flat up to 4kHz before gently rolling off the top end. This natural high-frequency attenuation reduces cymbal wash and harshness, allowing the room sound of the kit to remain punchy, balanced, and mix-ready.
At the heart of the RM8 is a custom-tuned 34mm capsule paired with a low-noise circuit that delivers fast transient response and exceptional clarity. Because drum room tracks are often heavily compressed during mixing, Roswell designed the RM8 with extremely low circuit distortion to preserve detail and maintain fidelity even under aggressive processing.
The RM8 also offers switchable Cardioid and Figure-8 polar patterns, making it highly versatile for stereo recording techniques such as XY, AB, ORTF, Mid-Side, and Blumlein. Hand-assembled and individually tuned at Roswell’s California headquarters, each microphone is built with premium components and matched to tight tolerances, ensuring consistent performance for both single microphones and matched stereo pairs.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
Purpose-Built Drum Room Microphone
The RM8 was specifically designed to capture drum room ambience with clarity and balance. Its tailored frequency response emphasises the body and impact of the kit while naturally controlling cymbal harshness.
Smooth High-Frequency Control
With a flat response up to 4kHz followed by a gentle high-frequency roll-off, the RM8 reduces cymbal wash while preserving the natural character of the drums and the room.
Switchable Polar Patterns for Stereo Techniques
The RM8 features switchable Cardioid and Figure-8 polar patterns, allowing engineers to use pairs of microphones for professional stereo techniques, including XY, AB, ORTF, Mid-Side, and Blumlein configurations.
Clean Transients and Low Distortion
A low-noise, neutrally voiced circuit captures fast transients and subtle room details with exceptional fidelity. This ensures the microphone maintains clarity even when drum room tracks are heavily compressed during mixing.
Hand-Assembled and Precision Matched
Each RM8 is hand-assembled and tuned in California, with capsule voicing carefully calibrated for optimal performance. Matched pairs are tightly matched in sensitivity and frequency response for reliable stereo imaging.
