Locomotive Audio ZCAR – Passive DI Box & Amp-Up
OVERVIEW
The Locomotive Audio ZCAR combines two essential studio tools – a passive DI box and a re-amp device – into a single, road-ready unit. With ZCAR, you can record your instrument directly into a favorite mic preamp, then later send that same track back out to pedals or amplifiers for creative tone shaping. This workflow gives engineers and musicians total flexibility in both tracking and mixing, without the need for multiple boxes.
At its heart, the ZCAR features a custom-wound American mu-metal shielded transformer that isolates the ¼” and XLR connections, ensuring proper input and output impedances on both sides. Its 3-position pad switch works in both DI and Amp-Up modes, while the Amp-Up section adds an optional “Big Roll” high-frequency rolloff for smoothing harshness when sending signals to amps. Housed in a heavy-duty steel chassis, the ZCAR is built for the studio and the stage, offering reliability, flexibility, and outstanding audio performance – all without requiring external power.
