Neve® 1073DPX-D – Dual 1073 Channel Strip w/ Integrated USB/ADAT Audio Interface
OVERVIEW
The Neve® 1073DPX-D brings the unmistakable sound of the world’s most iconic microphone preamp into the digital age. Evolving from the best-selling 1073DPX, this powerful dual-channel strip integrates a premium 10-in/12-out USB and ADAT audio interface, allowing engineers to capture genuine 1073 tone directly into their DAW without the need for a separate interface. Built in England and housed in a robust 2U chassis, it preserves the original Class-A topology, Marinair™ transformers, and inductor EQ that define the legendary Neve sound.
Designed as the centrepiece of a modern hybrid studio, the 1073DPX-D supports mono, stereo, and multi-mic tracking, digital re-amping, hardware inserts, and zero-latency monitoring. Its flexible routing allows users to record through the analogue signal path, insert DAW tracks back through the hardware for true analogue processing, or expand systems via ADAT for larger sessions – all with seamless integration and rock-solid reliability.
With driver-free USB connectivity, advanced monitoring control, scalable ADAT expansion, and authentic analogue circuitry throughout, the 1073DPX-D delivers classic Neve warmth, headroom, and musicality in a workflow built for today’s studios. It’s not just a channel strip – it’s a complete analogue-digital recording system.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
The 1073DPX Evolved: Classic Analogue Meets Modern Digital Workflow
The 1073DPX-D extends the original 1073DPX into the digital domain without sacrificing the warmth, saturation, and musicality that define the 1073. Each channel feeds directly into high-performance AD/DA conversion, enabling immediate recording, processing, and monitoring via USB or ADAT. This hybrid design combines classic analogue tone with the flexibility, convenience, and recall of a modern digital workflow – no additional interface required.
10×12 USB/ADAT Interface: A Studio Hub in a Single Unit
With ten inputs and twelve outputs, the 1073DPX-D becomes the central connection point for your entire studio. Its dual analogue signal paths handle mic, line, and DI sources, while ADAT expansion allows for larger multi-mic sessions. Four analogue outputs support monitoring and outboard routing, and eight ADAT outputs provide multi-channel playback. Whether tracking at home or building a full hybrid rig, the 1073DPX-D scales effortlessly and integrates seamlessly with units such as the 1073OPX or a second 1073DPX-D.
Plug-In and Record, Anywhere
Requiring no drivers, the 1073DPX-D connects instantly to macOS and Windows. A single USB cable provides full bidirectional 10×12 audio routing, direct access to both 1073 channels, and digital return paths for monitoring and inserts. This simplicity makes it ideal for studio, live, and mobile recording environments where reliability and speed matter.
Flexible ADAT Expansion Modes
The 1073DPX-D offers two ADAT operating modes. In USB/ADAT Hub Mode, it acts as the central interface, expanding effortlessly with additional Neve preamps or external converters. In ADAT Audio Expander Mode, it becomes a dedicated analogue front end for an existing interface, delivering full 1073 preamp, EQ, and conversion over a single optical cable. This flexibility ensures compatibility with virtually any production setup.
True Analogue Processing Inside Your DAW
Acting as a dual-channel hardware insert, the 1073DPX-D lets users route vocals, instruments, stems, or buses through its class-A preamps, Marinair™ transformers, and inductor EQ, then return signals digitally via USB or ADAT. This brings genuine 1073 analogue colour and dynamics into a fully digital workflow – without patchbays or complex routing.
Monitoring Command Centre
Designed to be a monitoring hub for smaller studios, the 1073DPX-D features independent loudspeaker control via the classic Neve red knob, direct blend between DAW playback and live inputs, zero-latency hardware monitoring, and a dedicated headphone output with independent control. This makes it equally suited for tracking, cue mixes, and critical listening.
True Class-A Discrete Design with Hand-Wound Transformers
The 1073DPX-D retains the original 1970s class-A architecture and exclusive hand-wound Marinair transformers that define the iconic 1073 sound. With enormous headroom (>+26 dBu), smooth transient response, and consistent analogue warmth, it delivers the unmistakable character engineers expect – while modern SMT and through-hole construction ensure long-term reliability.
Legendary 1073 Gain Structure and Inductor EQ
A stepped 5 dB Elma switch ensures accurate gain recall, while automatic input-stage selection and three transistor-based gain stages provide clean headroom or musical saturation across mic, line, and DI sources. The inductor EQ offers three musical bands with carefully chosen frequencies, smooth ±16 dB shelves, ±18 dB mid peaking, and a selectable high-pass filter, delivering bold, musical tone shaping on any source.
Flexible Analogue I/O for Real Studio Integration
Front and rear mic/line inputs, front DI access, pre/post EQ insert loops, switchable phantom power, impedance, pad, and phase, plus dedicated output faders feeding balanced XLR outputs, make the 1073DPX-D suitable for everything from vocal tracking and stereo recording to reamping, live production, and broadcast work.
A Complete Hybrid Studio Solution
By combining legendary analogue circuitry with modern digital integration and flexible routing, the 1073DPX-D stands as a complete recording and production system. It delivers the unmistakable character of the world’s most iconic preamp directly into today’s workflows – making it the ideal centrepiece for any modern hybrid studio.
